Wikipedia, the all knowing grand parent for all of us, is celebrating its 15th birthday today. Here I'm sharing some interesting facts you should know about ;)
- Launched by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger in January 15, 2001.
- It's world's seventh most popular website.
- There are 38 million articles in 289 languages on Wikipedia.
- The first edit made on Wikipedia was "Hello World".
- The most edited Wikipedia page is about George W. Bush.
- There are around 80,000 volunteers all around the world who write and edit on Wikipedia.
- People who work in Wikipedia are called "Wikipedians".
- The first article written was about the standard poodle.
- A pair of quail was the first ever photo uploaded on it.
- Wikipedia never runs ads on its site. It's solely funded by donations.
- There's much more free stuff than just an online encyclopedia like Wiki Dictionary, Learning Tools, Wiki Quotes, Wiki Books, Wiki Travel Guide etc.
- There are some freaky articles shared on this largest library, you've to read once- Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo, longest name, February 30, Rain of animals etc.
- It would take 16 years to read whole English Wikipedia if you don't take any break!
